TLi 6.3 is Here - Posted 8/27/2009
By now you have probably heard the news.  TLi 6.3 is ready to go and all set for you to upgrade to.  But what does that mean?  What features does it contain?  How will it change your life?  And how dangerous will it be to install?   Ooooooh, very exciting stuff.       (read more and comments)

EDI is Complex? - Posted 6/16/2009
Does EDI seem complex to you?  Or is it something that makes your business and your trading partners easier to deal with?  It should be the latter, and in my experiences usually is, but what are some of the reasons why it might not be?  Fortunately, most of those are comfortably in your control.      (read more and comments)

EDI Simplification - Posted 2/9/2009
Now ideally, EDI simplifies things.  It allows you to trade with multiple vendors with no (well, very little) knowledge of their system or how they do business.  If you have properly integrated it with your business system, it provides a very efficient and automatic way to transfer data between you and your trading partner.

But if that is true (and it certainly is) then why are so many EDI departments just awash in detail and complexity?     (read more and comments)

TLi Release 2.6.1 - It's Here! - Posted 9/9/2008
In a move that could only be called totally expected, Inovis has recently released the latest version of Trusted Link i, release 6.2.1.

As you can guess from the numbering, this is not a major release but it does have some interesting features. But what is perhaps most important is that – it really doesn’t matter.    (read more and comments)

EDI's New Wave - Posted 8/21/2007
Remember when EDI used to be simple?   You did a few 850's, sent out a couple of 810's, maybe even an 856 with one of your more daring trading partners, and you were a hero.

Not much has stayed the way it was ten years ago, however, and EDI is no exception.  The problem is everyone keeps raising the bar and pretty soon the old standbys are just not enough.  But what are the new darlings of the EDI world?  What are the bench mark documents that you simply have to be doing to be somebody, anybody?    (read more and comments)

EDI - Does it Still Make Sense? - Posted 7/11/2007
Are you running EDI?  Can’t do business without it, can you?  Or perhaps you are just thinking about doing it.  Everybody tells you that you need to but you still can’t help but wonder - Is it worth it?  Does EDI still make sense in an era of websites and portals?

EDI & SOX - Posted 6/12/2007
EDI has always posed a special challenge in Sox audits.  Part of this is because the Visual Mapper makes it so easy to modify maps and UFD’s.  Generally this work is done by a  non-IT person, and because it can be done in just a few moments, it often escapes the more formal notice of the IT Change Management System.  On top of that, you have the black box nature of  Trusted Link.  We get used to not thinking about EDMAST or any of the other files that make the system work and that is nice and comfortable, but it also keeps us from being concerned about auditing the changes to the files that are actually being updated by the Visual Mapper.  The end result is that many IT departments tend to gloss over Trusted Link when it is time to do an audit, gloss over it in a way that they would not for a regular RPG application.  And TLi let you do that, it encouraged you to think of it truly as a black box.  But that is starting to change.     (read more and comments)
