10.0 - It's Not so Small
-
Posted 8/27/2009
Ever say anything publically?
A number of times? As well as putting it in writing once or twice?
And then you found out you were wrong? Yeah. That's the
subject of this post. That and PRMS 10.0. Anybody got any
salt? This crow is really bland.

Choosing an ERP System
-
Posted 6/8/2009
Thinking about looking for a new
ERP system? Or maybe you are just sitting there wondering if the
one you've got is worth a hoot? Here's an easy way to get into
that question. Just three simple steps. How hard can that
be?

PRMS Patch for 6.1
-
Posted 5/14/2009
Yes, it's true. If you want
to upgrade to i5/OS 6.1 you are probably going to need a special patch
from Infor to get past observability problems in the software.

Infor Contract Options

In the old days contracts were very
simple; permanent license with optional maintenance. Not so today.

ERP Holy Grail

Posted 3/11/2009
So many companies today are in
constant search of the Holy Grail of ERP systems; that one system that
is perfect in every way for them and which will magically make them
efficient and profitable.

PRMS - Wha'ca Gonna Do? -
Posted 2/17/2009
So these are
the facts. PRMS will
continue to be supported by the help line but there will be no more
releases of the product.
The only upgrade path will be to interface other server or i based
packages from the Infor catalog with PRMS.
Given those facts, what makes sense as a strategy?

PRMS - What Went Wrong? -
Posted 2/11/2009
When all is
said and done I will have written four blog posts in a period of a week
on PRMS. I think that’s
more than I’ve written in the last year.
It’s like now that we have a clear statement on what is going to
happen to it that I just need to clear out my thoughts so that I can
move on.

The Future of PRMS - The Plot
Thickens -
Posted 2/10/2009
I have done
some more research on the Future of PRMS. I have taken the liberty of
reviewing the other future webinars for the other midrange products that
Infor owns; LX (formerly BPCS), XA (formerly MAPCIS), and System 21
(formerly System 21). The webinar downloads are sitting out there on
the Infor Excellence Center web page (http://www.infor.com/systemi/)
so I guess it’s not illegal. You have to sign in to get to the download
but that just involves putting in some basic info like your name,
company, bank account numbers, that sort of thing.

Infor Webinar - The Future of PRMS -
Posted 2/08/2009
This past
Thursday Infor held a special webinar to talk about the future of PRMS.
Hosted by Infor’s very own Kari Miller, the presentation was billed as a
look at PRMS and where Infor was planning to take it over the next few
years. That information did come out but the webinar was really an
opportunity for Infor to unveil their overall ERP product strategy and
what was said about PRMS could have just as easily be said about XA or
BPCS.

What Goes Around . . . Goes Around -
Posted 12/08/2008
Most of you are not going to be
able to remember this, but for me it seems just like yesterday. All of
us in MIS would wait expectantly each week for Computer World to arrive,
and we would dive into the want ads just to reassure ourselves that
there were companies out there who would gladly hire us for double what
we were currently making. Yeah, we might have to relocate to Saudi
Arabia, but who cares. Just look at those salaries! There was one
other thing that was part of just about every edition of Computer World
(and every other IT magazine at that time); an article about the dangers
of ‘islands of data’.

will see a link to a white paper entitled ‘Where is PRMS Going?’.

Where is ERP Software Going? -
Posted 3/31/2008
Where is ERP software going?
You know, software like PRMS. Is the cost of owning an MRPII
system going to increase or decrease? Will companies stay on
maintenance or move off to reduce costs.

Where Does PRMS Have to Go? -
Posted 7/3/2007
I have done a
lot of talking over the past few months about where PRMS is going. You
know, how 10.1 is coming out and Infor is committed to keeping PRMS
going and how it is going to be SOA’ed and all that stuff. And we need
to have that kind of information. But maybe there is an even more
important question that we haven’t asked.

Training - Key to the Future or Waste of Time? -
Posted 5/18/2007
I used to belong to an organization
whose motto was 'Training Precedes Victory'. Now most companies
seem to feel that 'training is nice and all but you don't really expect
us to spend time on it do you?'. What do you think? Is
training necessary? What should it's role be as we step into the
future? What type of training is best for today's world (on-site,
web based, individualized where people find their own time to train,
etc.)? And what do you hope to get trained in over the next
year? (comments)
How are
you feeling about PRMS today? -
Posted 4/23/2007
So PRMS is running your business. Cool. But what do you
think of it anyway? What are the words that run through your mind
when you think of it? Reliable? Archaic? Accurate?
Mysterious? Efficient? Out of Control? Helpful? What
do you think of when you think about PRMS? And why?
